The Jack Lavin Collaboration Fund: Supporting the Future of Forest Collaboration
Idaho Forest Restoration Partnership (IFRP) was founded in 2010 by a group of eight individuals, including retired forester Jack Lavin, who initially came together to plan a Society of American Foresters conference in Boise.
Inspired by a shared commitment to collaboration and sustainable forest management, the group chose to continue working together, forming IFRP later that year.
Following Jack’s passing in 2013, his family established the Jack Lavin Fund through a generous donation in his honor.
IFRP designated the fund to help offset the cost of attending meetings, conferences, and other educational opportunities that support learning and engagement in forest collaboration efforts.
The fund reflects Jack’s enduring dedication to collaborative forestry and thoughtful land management.
Over the past decade, IFRP has continued to sustain the Jack Lavin Fund, using it to support individuals attending IFRP meetings and events. The organization has replenished the fund through conference revenues, ensuring its continued impact even beyond the initial donation.
Through the Jack Lavin Fund, IFRP hopes Jack’s legacy of collaboration, leadership, and stewardship will continue to inspire and support future generations working in forest restoration and management.
Purpose of the Fund
Travel grant are available to help defray costs associated with training opportunities that strengthen the ability of Idaho collaborative groups to address key issues and achieve consensus on forest restoration recommendations. Eligible activities may include onsite and online training, train-the-trainer programs, and travel expenses for collaborative group members attending training events.
Application Requirements & Funding Match
Applicants must explain how travel grant funds will be used to support the objectives outlined above and identify additional funding sources that will contribute to completing the training. Grant awards typically range from $200 to $1,000. The Collaboration Fund requires a minimum 100% funding match from other sources.
Review Process & Reimbursement
Idaho Forest Restoration Partnership reviews applications on a monthly basis. Applicants are encouraged to submit requests at least one month in advance to ensure funds can be committed prior to incurring expenses. All IFRP funds are distributed as reimbursements after training expenses have been incurred and receipts verifying those expenses have been submitted to IFRP.
